Venerations for St. Philopater Mercurios & St. Demiana

Veneration for St. Philopater Mercurius

I open my mouth with praise / And glorify the name of Jesus / I praise the martyr of Christ / Saint Mercurius

He wore the shield and helmet / He was strengthened by the holy One / Full of strength and goodness / Saint Mercurius

The angel of God gave him / A bright shining sword / He placed it in his hand / Like the bright lightning

He filled him with wisdom and mercy / Gave him victory and triumph / And great power / To destroy enemies

He marched before the soldiers / With the sign of the cross / To fight the barbarians / Saint Mercurius

He rode on his horse / With courage, he attacked them / Whenever they retreated, / He blocked them

The barbarians saw his two swords / Light shining from them / Raised above his head / As he struck them

He drew his sword / And cried with a strong voice / When they saw him / They retreated in great fear

Fainthearted and in weakness / They quickly disbanded / To their land they escaped / Their ranks were scattered

Famed among the barbarians / Known as “of the two swords” / They bow to him humbly / Even if he stands alone

Famed among the people / In all the lands / In his power and valor / Philopateer Mercurius

Vigilant of the earthly / He sought the heavenly / Rejecting the worldly / All wealth and prosperity

He thanked God for His grace / Went forth to Decius / He cast down his sword / Confessing the holy name

The king was angry / Decius the infidel / He shouted to the soldiers / To torture Mercurius

They gathered together / And beat him bitterly / He endured many tortures / From the evil rulers

At night, they dragged him / To be locked up in prison / In the morning, they found him / Healed and completely whole

The unbelievers were ashamed / Decius was humiliated / They all took council / In order to destroy him

They judged his case / That he be beheaded / On the twenty-fifth of Hathor / He received the righteous crown

He wore the unfading crown / Of martyrdom / And the angels rejoice / Worthy, worthy, worthy

The mention of Your name / Is in all the believers’ mouths / They all say, “O God of Mercurius / Help all of us!”

His father was called Noah in baptism / His mother called Saphina filled with the Spirit  / And the angel gave him a praised name / Philopateer Mercurius

Their intercessor Archangel Michael / Lead them in the fear of Immanuel  / This great hero was this family's fruit / Philopateer Mercurius

The Barbarians terrified Decius / He gathered his soldiers and the guards  / With their general, steadfast and strong / Philopateer Mercurius

"Caesar, fear not your enemies / My God is able to destroy them / And grant you this great desire / Philopateer Mercurius

Michael gave him a fiery sword / Saying "When you destroy the Barbarians / Do not forget your God, O chosen one / Philopateer Mercurius

He battled with power and faith / With two swords shining in his hands / All the enemies fell before his face / Philopateer Mercurius

In a short time they scattered / And the Roman soldiers shouted, / "The God of our general gave him triumph" / Philopateer Mercurius

The Emperor elevated the ranks / And honored all the leaders / Most of all, his hero of the two swords / Philopateer Mercurius

The Emperor ordered them to worship / And to offer incense to his idols / In steadfastness he refused the order / Philopateer Mercurius

"I do not worship stone or gold  / Your gods did not help in the war" / He torn his uniform and lost his rank / Philopateer Mercurius

"My God Jesus whom I worship / Is worthy of incense and offering / With fear and tremble I worship" / Philopateer Mercurius

"On the Cross He died for me / And from Hades He saved me / I shall not deny Him or leave my faith" / Philopateer Mercurius

Decius was surprised and promised / To grant him many good things / "Your promise is vain and I reject" / Philopateer Mercurius

"Do not refuse but be obedient / Or I will humiliate you before everyone" / Our martyr refused with great courage / Philopateer Mercurius

He ordered for him to be whipped / And tortured to break his bones / They scraped his skin and he stood firm / Philopateer Mercurius

They placed him on hot iron bars / Because of his love to the Lord of hosts / This martyr endured many tortures / Philopateer Mercurius

The Emperor ordered to jail him / And the angel came and healed him / He who believes in Jesus shall not die / Philopateer Mercurius

The Lord raised him, and the soldiers shouted / "We worship God and we are His servants / We fear not death, but desire Him" / Philopateer Mercurius

In Caesarea, he received the crown / After Immanuel comforted him / He accepted the pain of the sword / Philopateer Mercurius

On the 25th of Hatour / He was martyred and left the world / His intercession is never in vain / Philopateer Mercurius

All the believers call upon him / Shouting and saying with faith / "Come save us O God of Abee Seifen" / Philopateer Mercurius

May God have mercy upon us / And guide us to follow your ways / Our joy multiplies with your blessings / Philopateer Mercurius

On the 9th of Baona we remember / The feast of bringing your relics / To Egypt, as a great treasure / Philopateer Mercurius

He healed the sick and the blind / And saved his children from the Devil / A great judge who helps everyone  / Philopateer Mercurius

On the 25th of Abib / We also commemorate / The consecration of the beloved's church  / Philopateer Mercurius

St. Anthony the great among the saints / Used to pray in his city for years / In the church of the martyr of the two swords  / Philopateer Mercurius

He is a strong intercessor for the virgins / Like the righteous St. Demiana / And all who walk in purity  / Philopateer Mercurius

Also Sophia and the virgins, / Emperor Julian martyred them, / And our hero stabbed him / Philopateer Mercurius

Save us from the Devil / As you saved Abba Basil / And killed Julian the infidel / Philopateer Mercurius

In his icon, he is a knight / Riding on a great horse / With his two swords a cross above  / Philopateer Mercurius

Abandon us not we the sinners / Teach us to please God / To love Him as you have done / Philopateer Mercurius

O God confirm in the faith / And make the lazy become strong / We overcome with the help of  / Philopateer Mercurius

O Lord save us by Your Cross / And deal with us in Your wonders / By the intercession of Your martyr  / Philopateer Mercurius

Help us O our holy God / To praise Your chosen martyr / As we all say, "Axios" / Philopateer Mercurius

Veneration for St. Demiana

It is truly great / To honor your saintliness / A companion you became / To the Church of martyrs and saints

They are truly great / Your struggles and labors / You have become exalted / In all your honors

Blessed are you, O lady / Demiana, the martyr / You endured many tortures / From the cruel soldiers

Blessed are you, who is called / Saint Demiana, the victorious / Your tortures were violent / Your crowns are precious

O pure among martyrs / Demiana, the chosen / The cruel soldiers / With you became baffled

You forsook the earthly / All its wealth that overwhelms / You desired the heavenly / And loved its realm

You loved chastity / While you were still young / Since your infancy / O shining star of light

You loved purity / O saint of illumination / A lampstand of luminosity / To the church’s congregation

You loved seclusion / More than human companionship / You were adorned with perfection / Like the heavenly soldiers of worship

You loved the wilderness / And lived in its borders / The Lord, the Creator / Illuminated it with your brightness

You asked of your father / For a secluded tower / To worship your Creator / Leaving the world altogether

He granted your longing / And built you a beautiful castle / According to your yearning / For praises and vigil

You chose forty virgins / Known for their purity / You attained grace and blessings / And spoke heavenly wisdom

Until you defeated the wicked soldiers / They were overcome by your works / When you followed the Worshipped / O first-born and virtuous

Also Mark, your father / When he obeyed the apostate / You restored him by your phrases / And words so eloquent

Blessed are you indeed / Who is exalted greatly / Illuminate us with your light / For you are mighty

Blessed are you indeed / Who has conquered / Accept me in your protection / For you have overcome

I, the poor, have asked / From a pure first-born and friend / To be my tender comfort / Until the end

I, the sinner, have asked / From a first-born and chaste / To raise my prayers / And help me when I say

The mention of your name / Is in all the believers’ mouths / They all say “O God of St. Demiana / Help all of us!”

Another Melody for St. Demiana

I chant with songs / and magnificent sayings / and also I say: “Hail / to your purity, O pure one”

I am doing that / to ask your eternal groom / Giver of all grace / for mercy

And to inspire me a little / to describe your wonders / and to give me the proof / of your strong faithfulness

You have gained a lot / O bride of your Lord / when through your exhortation / you turned your father from godlessness

What courage you had / when you stood / before kings/ who were all looking at you

Good sayings you uttered/ although you were young / before your enemies/ with a strong heart

Replied to you the prince / who came to torture you / “I came to you Demiana / as I am concerned for your youth

I say to you the truth / that you should renounce the faith / and obey the king’s order / and worship the idols

He has many devices / for whom ever mentions Christ / and his soldiers are ready / for the one who praises Him

He sent me to you / Demiana today / to the city of Zaafaran / over which your father rules

Figure a way out / before you are tortured / and also listen to me / and have pity for your youth

How can you bear torture / while you are a young girl / being beaten with rods / and many devices

Offer to idols tomorrow / and I will make you famous / and I will write to the king / to honor you”

O brethren, the prince bowed/ his head after talking to her / and his soldiers surrounding him / said: “Truly you failed, O prince!”

“You want to turn me / from worshiping the Judge / and in your ignorance you force me / to worship idols”

When the godless king / heard these words from her / he ordered all the soldiers / to expose her hair

The soldiers beat her / severely in a painful way / while she was saying: / “Help me, O Mary”

“The Virgin Mary, my lady / is the one who protects me /from your torture, O godless people / who worship idols

Idols do not help / on the Day of Judgment / and gods did not satisfy / the requests of man

Yes, you are blind / and enslaved by Satan your father / to abide with him in darkness / and flame and fire”

The prince replied to her / with kind words / “I came to you because / I care for you, Demiana

Listen to me and keep / my words deep in your heart / if you will not leave Christ / I will come to torture you”

As soon as she heard / the words of the godless one / she denied his gods / at once through the Almighty Lord

“Woe to you, O unjust one / I am joyful today / to leave the world / and I am not sad”

He kept torturing her / for three years / asking her everyday / to worship idols

He tied her to tails of horses / and dragged her around the city / Her blood was shed as a stream / and the virgins were sad for her

They threw her in a dark pit / and soldiers were watching her / and he spent an entire night / thinking about her case

As daylight appeared / the prince asked to bring her / and soon the devil incited him / to take off her head

Her head was taken off / on the thirteenth of Tobe / and she was lifted up / in joy to the beloved countries

We ask you to intercede for us / O bride of the Judge / O Demiana the chaste / on the Day of Judgment

Hail to you, O nun / the maidservant of the Judge / hail to you, O ascetic one / now and forever

The mention of your name / is in all the believers’ mouths / they all say “O God of St. Demiana / help all of us!”
